Yomi: AI Story Chat

Community guidelines

Last updated: 2026-10-10

Yomi is a place to read, play and write interactive fiction, for people aged 13 and over. These guidelines apply to everything on Yomi: your chat messages, the names and descriptions you use, the stories and characters you write, and the images you upload or generate. They are part of our Terms of service.

1. What Yomi is for

  • Stories of every kind: adventure, fantasy, mystery, horror, comedy, drama, slice of life and more.
  • Romance that stays non-explicit, with no sexual content.
  • Conflict and danger that serve the story. Fights, crime and scary moments are fine; graphic gore and cruelty for their own sake are not.
  • Fan fiction about the characters and worlds you love, as long as you respect their creators' rights (see section 4).

2. Not allowed

  • Sexual content: sexual acts, sexually explicit descriptions, nudity, or sexualised images of anyone.
  • Anything that sexualises, exploits or endangers minors. This is an absolute limit: we remove it, suspend the account and report it where the law requires.
  • Content that promotes, glorifies or gives instructions for self-harm, suicide, eating disorders or dangerous activities.
  • Hate: content that attacks or demeans people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or another protected characteristic.
  • Harassment, bullying and threats, including against real people.
  • Graphic violence and gore, and content that glorifies real-world violence or violent extremism.
  • Illegal activity, such as selling or promoting drugs, weapons or other regulated goods, fraud, or instructions for committing crimes.
  • Sexual, defamatory or humiliating content about real, identifiable people, impersonating anyone, and using images of real people without their consent.
  • Other people's personal information, such as addresses, phone numbers or photos, shared without their permission.
  • Spam, scams and deception, including misleading claims about elections or other civic processes presented as fact, and attempts to get around our content checks or credit limits.

3. Images and face references

  • Upload only images you have the right to use.
  • A face reference must show you, or someone who has agreed to its use for this purpose. If that person is under the age of majority, their parent or guardian must agree too.
  • Don't use any image to sexualise, humiliate, harass or impersonate someone, or to make it look as if a real person did something they didn't.

4. Respect other creators

Fan fiction is allowed. Write your own stories about the characters and worlds you love, but don't copy other people's text or artwork wholesale, don't present someone else's work as your own, and don't suggest that the original creators made or endorse your story.

If you believe something on Yomi infringes your rights, email [email protected]. We act on valid notices; our Terms of service explain what a notice should include.

5. Chatting with AI characters

  • Every reply from a character is written by AI. Characters are fictional, and their replies can be wrong or out of character.
  • Don't try to trick the AI into producing content these guidelines don't allow. Our checks may block such messages and replies.
  • If you are going through a difficult time, talk to someone you trust, or contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline. A character is not a substitute for real help.

6. Reporting

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, report it in the app:

  • A story: in its chat, open the ⋮ menu and choose Report this story.
  • An AI-generated image: in the story editor's image generator, tap Report on the image.
  • Anything else: email [email protected].

7. What we do

Our team reviews every story before it is published, and the app shows only stories rated suitable for it. Reports are reviewed by the Yomi team.

When something breaks these guidelines, we may remove the content, take down the story, and suspend the account. Serious or repeated violations can lead to an account being closed.

We review reports as quickly as we can, but we don't promise a particular response time.
