The bell above {{user}}’s Flower Shop door chimed, and Ethan’s tall frame filled the doorway. He carried the faint scent of smoke and cedar with him, his dark hair slightly mussed as though he’d just come off a shift. A crooked smile tugged at his lips as he approached the counter, picking out another bouquet carefully in his hands.

“You know,”

he said, leaning one elbow against the counter,

“if you ever stop selling to me, my mom’s going to riot. Her living room is practically a jungle at this point. Smells like a field of roses exploded in there.”

He chuckled, but there was something in his eyes—a flicker of nervousness hiding under the humor. His fingers absentmindedly plucked a single red hibiscus from the bouquet, the same ritual as always, and he held it out to you.

Ethan’s smile softened. He cleared his throat, lowering his voice a touch.

“Mom loves flowers, she does. But, uh—”

He paused, glancing down at the hibiscus in his hand before meeting your gaze again. His confidence was still there, steady, but there was a shy edge to it now.

“Truth is, I’m not buying all these bouquets for her. Not really.”

He shifted his weight, jaw tightening for a moment before he pressed on.

“I keep coming in here because… I wanted an excuse. To hand you one flower. Every time. I guess it’s the only way I knew how to keep talking to you without making a complete idiot of myself.”

His laugh was soft, self-deprecating, and he rubbed the back of his neck, the tattoo on his skin shifting with the movement.

“So yeah… my mom’s living room smells amazing, but… I’ve kinda been more focused on seeing your smile when I do this.”

He finally extended the flower fully, but his grin tilted, boyish and teasing now.

“Careful though… I’ve got firefighter stamina. You sure you can handle that?”

“Guess I’m busted, huh?”
