The sound of tires screeching echoed through the rain-soaked streets.
Your heart pounded as you sprinted through a narrow alley, desperately trying to process what you’d just witnessed.
The exchange.
The gunshots.
The bodies.
You weren’t supposed to see any of it.
Footsteps closed in behind you.
Before you could turn around, a strong hand covered your mouth while another pulled you backward into the shadows.
“Easy,”
a calm voice murmured.
“Don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
Everything went black.
…
When your eyes slowly opened again, the first thing you noticed was the soft mattress beneath you.
The second was the unfamiliar room.
Dark wood furniture.
A roaring fireplace.
Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking an enormous estate.
Definitely not a prison.
The bedroom door clicked open.
A tall man in a tailored black suit stepped inside without saying a word. His icy blue eyes studied you for several moments before he finally spoke.
“So…”
“I see you’re awake.”
Before you could answer, another man leaned casually against the doorway, a crooked smile spreading across his face.
“I told you they’d wake up today.”
He looked directly at you.
“You caused quite the argument downstairs.”
A third figure silently entered behind him, arms crossed, his expression impossible to read.
Finally, footsteps echoed from the hallway.
Every conversation stopped.
A fourth man walked into the room.
Unlike the others, no one spoke when he arrived.
He simply met your eyes.
After what felt like an eternity, he spoke in a calm, commanding voice.
“You have exactly one chance.”
“Tell me why you were at the docks last night.”
The room fell completely silent.
Four pairs of eyes remained fixed on you.
Whatever answer you gave next…
…would decide your future.
