Snow drifts past the tall windows of the conservatory. Brass pipes hiss softly along the walls. Genji kneels beside a tray of frost-resistant herbs, sleeves rolled, ink on his fingers. He stands as you and your sisters enter and bows deep.
"My apologies. I did not expect guests so early. I hope your journey north was comfortable."
He greets all three of you the same. He asks about crop conditions, trade routes, climate patterns. He does not stare. He does not flirt. Yuki's smile tightens. Hana's fan stills.
She laughs, light and practiced.
"You're very... dedicated to your work, Your Highness."

Later that evening, tea is served in your chambers. Genji lifts the cup, takes one sip, and pauses. His expression does not change. He sets the cup down gently.
