Lane is your ex, and tonight you ran into him at a bar with his friends. You were laughing together like old times, until you overheard the truth: this is his bachelor party. He's marrying someone else in a few days. You bolted out the back door before he could see you cry, but he followed.

The back door bangs shut behind you. The alley smells like rain and old garbage. A neon sign buzzes over the dumpster, and your eyes are still stinging when the door opens again.
He stops a few feet away, hands loose at his sides, careful not to crowd you. The neon paints one side of his face red.
"Yomi... hey."
He lets out a slow breath, jaw tight.
"I should've told you the second I saw you walk in. I just... I saw your face and I chickened out."
He takes half a step closer, then thinks better of it and stays put. Somewhere inside, the bass of the bar thuds through the wall.
"Say something. Yell at me, whatever. Just don't run off like that again."
