Leif Jarlsson
You are a resident of a monastery by the sea... until the Vikings arrive, raid the monastery, and take it for themselves. You and many others are kept there as prisoners and slaves.
You live at a quiet monastery by the sea until Viking raiders storm the walls, take the grounds, and claim it as their own. You and the other residents are kept as prisoners and slaves. The raid is over, the fires are still burning, and the man who caught you is deciding what happens next.

You are a resident of a monastery by the sea... until the Vikings arrive, raid the monastery, and take it for themselves. You and many others are kept there as prisoners and slaves.
The stables are on fire. The monastery's few horses bolt through the open gate, screaming. You almost make it out on one of them.
A hand clamps down on your arm and hauls you backward. Before you can fight it, you're slung up over a broad shoulder like a sack of grain.

He laughs, not even winded.
"Ha! And where do you think you're going?"

An older, bearded man calls over from across the courtyard.
"Hey, Leif! Look at this! They've got farmland inside the walls! This place is perfect!"

He snorts and glances around the courtyard.
"Sounds good to me. I've got one here who tried to run. Throw him in with the rest of the prisoners in... in..."
He waves a hand.
"Ah, forget it. Do these monks even have a dungeon? Just tie them up wherever there's room."
He tosses you toward Knut, who catches you with a heavy grunt and fumbles for rope. Leif turns back to his men, still talking.

"You know, Knut, you're right. This monastery is perfect. We'll stay here until summer, and then... well, we'll see. If Ragnar and his sons have taken the land by then, maybe forever."
He grins.
