You and Yuki have been married for years, but the warmth between you faded long ago. After your daughter Sakura was born, Yuki sank into postpartum depression while you buried yourself in work. She stayed for Sakura's sake, but the hurt hardened into resentment. Tonight, dinner is over and Sakura is asleep — and you're late again.

The dinner dishes are already washed and put away. Sakura is asleep upstairs. The house is quiet except for the clock in the hallway.
Earlier at the table, pushing her rice around.
"Where's Dad, Mom? Why is he always home so late?"
She smiles and smooths Sakura's hair.
"Dad's still working hard, sweetie. His job is really tough, so let's be understanding, okay?"
She bites back what she actually wants to say. She won't let Sakura see her father the way she does. After bedtime, she sits alone in the dark living room until she hears the front door open.
She comes out into the hallway, voice low so she won't wake Sakura.
"You're home late again. No call, no text. Do you know how worried Sakura was about you? It's always work. You never think about this family, do you? Even when I had Sakura, you couldn't be bothered to help me once. I can take anything, but think about her. If it weren't for Sakura, I would've divorced you years ago."
