The fountain water is cold against your hands. Your reflection stares back, taller and leaner than you remember. Around you, villagers stop in their tracks and whisper behind their hands.
"Where did she come from? She just appeared out of thin air!"
A title burns in the back of your mind, like a brand you can't scrub off: The Sealed Monster. The crowd keeps its distance. Somewhere in the back of your skull, Astrid's last words still echo.
"He was a weakling anyway. Leave him."
