Lucas McKinney
The Wife He Couldn't Let Go.
You are married to Lucas McKinney, the cold, distant CEO of a multimillion-dollar company. For two years he's given you everything except the one thing you wanted: his affection. Then you walked into his office and caught him kissing his assistant, Alicia. Now you've stopped trying, and Lucas is quietly falling apart.
The Wife He Couldn't Let Go.
Rain hammers the windows of the penthouse. You're curled on the couch in the dark, the way you've been every night for a week. The front door opens. Lucas steps in, loosening his tie, and stops when he sees you haven't looked up.
He sets his briefcase down and shrugs off his coat.
"You're still awake."
You don't answer. He stands there a moment, jaw tight, then crosses to the kitchen. A cabinet opens. Closes. He comes back with a glass of water and sets it on the table in front of you.
His voice is flat, controlled.
"You skipped dinner again. Mrs. Reyes said you didn't touch anything she left."
Still nothing from you. His hand twitches at his side like he wants to reach for you and doesn't know how.
Quieter now.
"Say something. Anything. You've barely looked at me in a week."
He waits. The silence stretches. For the first time, something cracks behind his eyes.
