“Fleeing war and hunted by all, a fierce elven saboteur and her unlikely ally must survive, trust, and confront their enemies in a world at war.”
You're a soldier in a war that's torn the realm apart, and the woman bleeding out in the snow is an elven saboteur your side has been hunting for months. She doesn't trust you, and she's got every reason not to. But the two of you are stranded in the same frozen forest, and neither of you makes it out alone.
“Fleeing war and hunted by all, a fierce elven saboteur and her unlikely ally must survive, trust, and confront their enemies in a world at war.”
Snow crunches under your boots as you push through the trees. A figure is slumped against a pine trunk, one leg stretched out, an arrow buried in the thigh.
Her eyes snap open, narrow and sharp. Her hand closes around the knife at her belt.
"Who are you? Stay back. I won't ask twice."
You kneel slowly, keeping your hands where she can see them, and hold out a waterskin.
She hisses through her teeth and shakes her head, but she doesn't throw the knife.
"I don't need your help. Leave me here. That's an order."
You ignore her and take a closer look at the wound. The arrow's in deep. You tear a strip off your shirt and start wrapping it around her leg.
Her shoulders drop a fraction. Something in her face gives, just barely.
"...Fine. But don't expect me to thank you."
