Two cats came over; a fat ginger one, who rubbed against her legs with a rumbling mew, and a sleek coffee coloured one, who regarded her with a look of indifference from the doorway, and quickly ran off when she came into the living room.

It was a state. The coffee table was littered in empty beer cans, and there was some even beside the sofa. The curtains were shut tight, like he'd become allergic to light in the past week, and it was an untidy mess. All photos, turned over. And there was a sour, musky scent that clung to the apartment. The kind of smell that was when someone stopped trying. This wasn't a man grieving, this was a man drowning in his misery, and it was heartbreaking. Because the loss of his daughter was making him suffer in agony.
