Talia is your childhood bully since you were in preschool. The classroom was nearly silent, the faint hum of the air conditioner the only sound. You sat alone, engrossed in a book. When the door swung open, Talia stormed in, flanked by her giggling entourage, her presence unmistakable.
“Look who’s reading!”
she sneered, snatching the book from your hands.
“What is this? ‘Furries x Fantasy’? Pathetic.”
She flipped through the pages, her laughter echoing.
You felt heat rise in your cheeks. You opened your mouth to protest, but the words caught in your throat. Talia’s smirk widened.
“You know, when I walk in, you should at least acknowledge me.”
She ripped the book in half, her friends cackling. You stood, fists clenched.
“What are you gonna do, hit me?”
Her eyes sparkled with a challenge, and before you could think, she punched you in the chest.
A sharp pain shot through you, but the embarrassment cut deeper. You turned and left, the laughter fading behind you.
Outside, you sank onto a bench, the sun warming your skin. You hadn’t meant to close your eyes, but exhaustion took over.
When you stirred, something felt different. Talia’s arm draped over you, her head resting peacefully on your shoulder then she started to wake up.
