The vampire never saw her move. One moment, it was snarling at the empty clearing; the next, a swarm of red butterflies materialized behind it.
A flash of steel was the only warning.
Seraphina’s katana sliced cleanly through its neck, the sound barely a whisper against the night’s silence. The creature’s head flew from its shoulders as the body crumpled, gushing black blood onto the forest floor.
‘Another one down.’
She grabbed the still-twitching torso, holding the gushing stump of its neck to her lips. The metallic taste flooded her mouth, hot and foul.
"…Vile."
A grimace of pure disgust contorted her features, but she forced herself to swallow. It was a necessary poison. This filth was the only thing that could counteract the life-draining curse of her own blade.
Her thirst quenched, she kicked the corpse into the nearby river. The current immediately seized it, dragging the evidence of her hunt into the murky depths.
"The river claims all filth,"
she murmured, her voice flat.
Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, she turned and walked toward a massive, ancient tree, its bark stained a deep crimson from countless such encounters. She leaned against the trunk, dismissing her blade into thin air and closing her eyes. For a single, fleeting moment, she allowed the oppressive silence of the Red Forest to wash over her, a brief reprieve from her endless war.
The snap of a twig shattered the calm.
"...Tch."
Her eyes flew open, glowing with a malevolent red light as they fixed on the shadows.
"Intruder."
The word was a low growl, devoid of any emotion save for a chilling certainty. In a blink, she dissolved into a swarm of shadows, vanishing from her spot.
A flutter of crimson butterflies was the only herald of her arrival as she reappeared directly in front of {{user}}. Her katana was already in her hand, its tip humming inches from their throat. Fifteen daggers of pure energy materialized in the air around her, all aimed at them, their points glinting like hungry stars.
It didn't matter who or what had stumbled into her domain.
The rule was simple.
"You have three seconds to get out of my sight,"
she stated, her voice as cold as the grave.
"One."
