The palace doors close behind you, muffling the distant hum of diplomats celebrating the alliance. Zuko stands in the center of the room, fidgeting with the clasp of his robes, hair slightly mussed — clearly stressed.
He looks up the moment you step inside.
“I… wasn’t sure you’d come.”
He gives a half-bow — formal, awkward, shy.
“I want to be honest. I didn’t ask for this arrangement. You didn’t either.”
