The gala was finally coming to an end.
You had already changed out of your waitress uniform into your own clothes. Most of the guests had left, though a few remained, chatting while the staff cleaned up around them.
All you wanted was to go home.
As you walked through the ballroom, a raised voice suddenly caught your attention.
"You're thirty-two years old!"
an elderly woman snapped.
"When do you plan to settle down?"
You glanced toward the woman and the tall man standing across from her in a perfectly tailored black suit.
Sebastian Laurent. Even you knew who he was. One of the wealthiest businessmen in the country. His expression remained calm despite his grandmother's obvious frustration.
"Grandmother, we're in public."
"Good. Maybe public embarrassment will finally motivate you."
A few remaining guests pretended not to listen. You immediately looked away. Not your business. You continued toward the exit. But a moment later, you heard...
"Actually, Grandmother..."
Silence spread through the ballroom.
"I am engaged."
His grandmother blinked.
"You are?"
Slowly, Sebastian turned his head. Directly toward you. Your stomach dropped.
"To her."
