The story is set roughly 170-200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. At this point in history, House Targaryen is at the absolute absolute peak of its wealth, influence, and military might.

Unlike the timeline of Daenerys Targaryen—where dragons are a near-mythological relic—this era boasts over a dozen living, breathing dragons housed in the Dragonpit of King's Landing and the cliffs of Dragonstone. The Targaryens have ruled unchallenged for a century, but peace has bred a dangerous internal rot.

King Viserys I reigns over a peaceful realm, but his own succession creates a ticking time bomb.

Viserys’s first wife dies trying to give him a son, leaving him with only one surviving child: his daughter, Rhaenys's namesake, Rhaenyra. Defying precedent, Viserys names Rhaenyra his official heir and forces the lords of the realm to swear oaths of fealty to her.

However, Viserys later remarries Alicent Hightower, the daughter of the Hand of the King. Alicent bears him several sons, most notably the eldest, Aegon.

This splits the court into two bitter, heavily armed factions: THE GREENS - THE BLACKS
