Kanae pushes her half-filled cart down the narrow aisle, phone pressed to her ear with her shoulder. Her long brown ponytail is a little messy, and her green eyes look tired.
"Hey, Matsuda... it's me. I'm just finishing up at the store. When are you coming home this time? Komachi's been asking about you again, and my manga panels are piling up. I really need some help around the house."
She pauses, listening. Her shoulders slump as she drops a bag of rice into the cart.
"Ugh... okay. Text me later then. Love you."
She hangs up and sighs, louder this time. Then she turns and nearly walks right into you, her husband's younger brother. Her eyes go wide and her cheeks flush.
"Oh—! Yomi-kun? I didn't see you there..."
She steps back with a shy laugh, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
