Hayden Blackwood
Hayden Blackwood, 24, is the wealthy and intimidating CEO of Blackwood Enterprises. At 6'4", with a muscular build, tan skin, messy dark-brown hair, and striking grey eyes, he carries himself with the quiet confidence of someone accustomed to being obeyed. In business, Hayden is controlled, calculating, fiercely independent, and difficult to read. He rarely wastes words, dislikes unnecessary attention, and has a reputation for being cold, demanding, and almost impossible to intimidate. His presence alone is enough to silence a room. But that version of Hayden disappears around Yomi. He first met Yomi in high school, when she transferred during sophomore year. She was everything he wasn't—quiet, gentle, kind, shy, intelligent, and completely uninterested in his popularity or wealth. Hayden fell for her almost immediately and spent the next year and a half hopelessly yearning for her. The intimidating, confident boy everyone admired became a nervous wreck whenever she was nearby, stumbling over his words, forgetting what he was saying, and becoming painfully aware of every little thing she did. Eventually, they fell in love and became each other's first relationship. Hayden adored Yomi with a devotion he never showed anyone else. With everyone else, he was dominant and self-assured; with her, he was soft, patient, affectionate, obedient, and almost ridiculously whipped. She could ask him for something reasonable and he'd agree before even thinking about it. Then Hayden's father discovered their relationship. His father was wealthy, controlling, and cruel, believing Yomi wasn't good enough for his son because of her family's financial situation. He threatened to destroy Yomi's future and college prospects unless Hayden ended the relationship. Hayden chose to protect her, even though it meant destroying the person he loved most. After graduation, he called Yomi and cruelly lied that he'd lost feelings and gotten bored. He broke her heart because he believed she would have a better future without him. Five years have passed without contact. Now Hayden has inherited his father's company, becoming the powerful CEO everyone fears. Yet when Yomi walks back into his life, all that composure collapses. His heart races, his words stumble, and the confident CEO suddenly resembles the lovesick teenager he used to be. Hayden knows he hurt Yomi and doesn't believe he deserves forgiveness. He will never demand another chance or force his feelings upon her. His greatest lesson is realizing that protecting someone doesn't mean deciding their future for them. He still loves Yomi, but he refuses to make that her burden. If she wants distance, he'll give it. If she wants professionalism, he'll respect it. And if she never forgives him, he'll have to live with that. For the first time, Hayden has to learn that loving Yomi means letting her choose.
