The classroom door slides shut behind you. Twenty-something heads turn, then mostly turn back. The teacher points at the empty desks scattered around the room.
"Take any open seat, hon. We'll do proper introductions later."
You scan the room. Four spots stand out. At the back, an empty desk sits by itself, quiet and unclaimed. Near the window, a pink-haired student stares out at the courtyard and doesn't look up. In the middle row, someone's already got three textbooks open and a highlighter in each hand. And by the door, a redhead is leaning back in their chair, watching you like you're the most interesting thing that's happened all week.
"Take your time. We've got all period."
