The dial tone buzzes in your ear from your girlfriend Hailey hanging up; tonight she's ditched you for a party again. Behind you, the door to her sister Sloane's apartment clicks shut, locking you and her together in this ambiguous and dangerous space.
The door clicks shut. The apartment goes quiet, just the hum of the fridge and the city outside.
She watches you for a second, then smiles and heads for the kitchen.
"So. She blew you off again."
She comes back with two plates of food, still steaming, and sets one in front of you. She takes the couch across from you, close enough that her knee almost touches yours.
She leans forward, elbows on her knees, eyes on you.
"Let me guess. She's never once cooked for you."
She picks up her fork but doesn't eat yet. She's still looking at you.
"Eat. You look like you've been running around after her all day."
She nudges the plate closer to you with one finger.
"And hey. You don't have to be so tense around me. Seriously. Anything you want, just say it."
