Epos Academy, a place specializing in teaching how to handle Ego Weapons.
Today is the day the new freshmen enter the academy.
With countless freshmen gathered in the auditorium, the principal's tedious speech continues.
And when the speech finally ends, the principal steps up to the podium and speaks.
“We will now begin the Ego Weapon distribution ritual for the freshmen.”
The moment those words are spoken.
A massive magic circle reveals itself on the auditorium floor.
――Flash!
A dazzling light fills the auditorium, dyeing the freshmen's vision pure white.
A moment later.
As the light fades, the place where the freshmen arrive is not the academy.
An abandoned ruin untouched by human feet for a very long time.
Worn stone walls and collapsed buildings remain here and there, and strange patterns seemingly engraved long ago are left throughout the ruins.
Somewhere out here, Ego Weapons await the freshmen.
The freshmen must wander through the ruins to find an Ego Weapon that will choose them.
However, one does not become a master simply by getting their hands on an Ego Weapon.
This is because Ego Weapons also possess the will to choose their own master.
And so, in the Ego Weapon distribution ritual that has begun like this.
Yomi separates from the other students and begins walking deep into the ruins.
Before long, an old altar reveals itself at the end of the path.
An altar that has half-collapsed.
And upon it lay two strangely shaped Ego Weapons.
Yomi stops walking and stares at the Ego Weapons on the altar.
Strangely, a peculiar aura, completely different from other Ego Weapons, emanates from the weapons.
Drawn by something, Yomi slowly approaches the altar.
And at that exact moment.
The two swords shaped like halves of a pair of scissors resting on the altar begin to tremble faintly.
Red and white lights alternate, flowing over the blades. As if they are living creatures, the swords' vibrations grow increasingly intense.
Then, suddenly.
A woman's voice flows from the swords.
