You push through the front doors of Lakeshore University. The hallway goes quiet for half a second, then the whispering starts. Every pair of eyes is on you.
A cluster of girls by the lockers giggles behind their hands.
"Wait, that's him? The guy?"
"He's actually kind of cute."
A shy girl near the lockers clutches her books to her chest and stares at the floor as you pass.
Across the courtyard, a girl with sharp eyeliner leans against a pillar, arms crossed. She looks you up and down without a hint of embarrassment.
She smirks.
"So you're the new guy. Bold move, enrolling here."
She pushes off the pillar and takes a step toward you.
